The Youth Triathlon will be the first event of the day starting at 8:00 am. The Youth Triathlon will be divided into two categories…..the first group to race will be kids that plan to complete the triathlon independently; following the “independent” group will be a group that may need some assistance from mom or dad who are welcome to swim, bike, or run alongside them. If your child begins in the first group but has trouble in the swim portion they are welcome to fall back and join the second group. For those more experienced young triathletes, feel free to check out the Sprint Distance Triathlon (open to those 12 and up).
The Youth Triathlon begins with a 100 yard swim parallel with the shore. The transition from swim to bike is relatively long with the bike transition area approximately 200 yards from the lake (this takes place along a relatively flat trail from the water’s edge to the bike staging area. The surface of the trail is primarily dirt with some gravel….those with sensitive feet may want to bring something to slip on their feet after the swim.
The bike portion of the youth race will consist of a 3.1 mi out and back along relatively flat terrain from the Sacandaga Bible Conference facility to just beyond the Sacandaga Boat Club (the youth bike course is the same as the adult run course). There will be a water station located at the turn.
The run portion of the youth race will consist of a 1 mi out and back (new route for 2016) within the grounds of the Sacandaga Bible Conference facility. There will not be a water station along the youth run course.
Lakeview Road will be closed to through traffic throughout the race; however, local traffic may be traveling the road. Race safety personnel will make every effort to keep traffic off the road during the youth race; however, we cannot guarantee there will not be an occasional vehicle. All participants should understand the rules of the road.
